Masakiyo Doubashi is a third-year student at Hakone Academy and a member of the Hakone Academy Bicycle Racing Club, serving as its vice-captain during the storyline's third year. He's a regular member of Hakone's Inter High Team since his second-year, working as the team's assist sprinter and eventually its ace sprinter.

Appearance[]

Masakiyo is quite large and imposing, easily being the largest member of Hakone Academy's team in terms of bulk. He has been shown with both short and long hair.

Personality[]

Masakiyo is loud and confident, though he goes somewhere quiet to concentrate before races. He does not appreciate being bothered during these times. He also hates being interrupted when someone speaks at the same time as him, while talking about seemingly opposite goals. He is also usually impulsive and can also be violent with anyone who goes against his beliefs and does not take something seriously, being able to even harm them physically.

His strong feelings are also noticeable when he puts a lot of stress in his equipments, especially practice bike handles and jersey zippers that he ends up breaking. Because of his strong feelings and his beliefs, Masakiyo can also be very persistent, keeping up on his choices and not giving up on it. Because he was constantly criticized for not knowing how to control them, Masakiyo decided to hold back his impulses of happiness and anger in various situations, even when racing. It was thanks to the many advices of Touichirou Izumida, his senior at Hakone, to not hold himself that Masakiyo to let his feelings flow in the races, making him perform better at them.

When racing with teammates or opponents that are no match for him, Masakiyo can easily get bored or annoyed and even criticize them for their weak points. On the opposite, he can also feel the joy of the moment when facing strong opponents that are capable of forcing him to go with everything he is capable of.

Skills and Techniques[]

Masakiyo is a skilled sprinter and always caught the attention of teammates and opponents to the point of being challenged frequently by some of them. He also has a huge presence which intimidates the people who races against him, being nicknamed as "Monster" thanks to both his cycling skills and pressure.

During his high school third year, Masakiyo develops even more his sprinting skills and creates a two phase acceleration, which he activates when applying his strong feelings in his cycling style. The first phase is named "Aventador (闘牛)", where he rides faster and partially applies his serious feelings on it. The second and final phase is named "Huracan (猛牛)", where he let go all of his feelings, riding using all his power and not controlling all his impulses, to the point of even breaking his jersey's zipper during the race.


Etymology[]

  • The name Masakiyo means "right, proper" (正) (masa) and "clear, pure, clean" (清) (kiyo).
  • Masakiyo's surname Doubashi means "copper" (銅) (dou) and "bridge" (橋) (hashi/bashi).
